Depth of Field

Depth of Field:
The area of a photograph both in front and behind the focal point which remain in acceptable focus.

The depth of field is affected by the aperture, subject distance, focal length and film size.

The distance from the closest point of the zone of focus to the focal point is approximitly half the distance of the distance from the focal point to the furthest point of the zone of focus.

"What uses having a great depth of field, if there is not an adequate depth of feeling?" - W. Eugene Smith
